While many of the original Linden Hills cottages from the late 19th and early 20th century have been replaced, the area’s rich past lives on through the Lake Harriet-Como Streetcar . This historic trolley line still runs through the neighborhood between Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska, in the middle of the Linden Hills commercial district.
Eclectic shops and restaurants near West 44th Street at Beard Avenue South and Chowen Avenue South at France Avenue South offer great shopping and dining options. Popular specialty stores and cafes including Wild Rumpus Bookstore, Pinwheels and Playtoys, Tilia and the Linden Hills Co-op are located near the intersection of Upton Avenue South and 43rd Street. This area, sometimes referred to as downtown Linden Hills, is also home to a large number of alternative health practitioners.
